Mica Wave Plates

Mica Wave Plates

Wave
Muscovite Sheet Mica of highest quality (V-I grade), having an even outstanding even surface, optically flat, transparent, scratchless and free from finger prints are specially used for BROADBAND WAVEPLATES or RETARDATION PLATES.

These useful broadband waveplates are manufactured by cleaving crystalline sheet mica to quarter, half and full waveplates to have the precise required first order retardation at 550mm wavelength.

They are useful throughout the visible spectrum from 400 to 700mm. The single Mica Disc is sandwitched between optical glass disks for protection on both sides ands are oriented so that the optical axes are orthogonal. These broadband mica waveplates are produced in diameter size of 10mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm and 50mm in various thickness.

Mica has birefringent properties, which means that it can split and divide unpolarized incident light into two orthogonal linearly polarized beams at different velocities, one transmitting straight through, the second precisely separated by 90o. Beamsplitting polarizers are used after the generation of the laser and different degrees of retardation are produced by mica waveplates.

Mica has an excellent polarization properties including very high extinction ratio and transmitting efficiency and helps to reduce light transmission in the above pplications. Mica also exhibits extremely broadband transmission performance, and these mica waveplatescan be operated with a high degree of retardation accuracy over a broad wave-length range.
